They can soothe and heal the mind, beautify the body & skin, stimulate the senses or induce feelings of calmness.

Anise Star

Latin name - Illicium verum

Cheering, sense enhancing, mildly euphoric. Added to perfumes for a rich, sweet fragrance.


Basil Linalol

Latin name - Ocimum basilicum

Used for gymnasts and athletic massage; the aroma is thought to give the mind strength and clarity. Invigorates body & spirit: helps refresh the mind allowing concentration, especially when tired.

Useful in the car to help concentration on a journey. Traditionally used as deodorant, soothing agent, insect repellent.


Bay, West Indian

Latin name - Pimenta acris

Used extensively in men’s fragrances. Traditionally used as an aphrodisiac.

Stimulating & energising. Hair rinse for dandruff, greasy lifeless hair.

Benzoin Siam

Latin name - Styrax benzoin var. tonkinsensis

It is the balsamic resin from benzoin (a small tree). Benzoin is a fixative, anti-oxidant. Used as a natural preservative in creams. Skin protective, deodorant. Benzoin must be diluted otherwise it is almost solid (sets like concrete).

Comforting and warming as a massage, especially when feeling you need a' pick me up'. Useful as a steam inhalant, especially in winter. Soothes cracked skin. Excellent for use in gardening handcreams. A warming and uplifting oil when used in massage.


Bergamot FCF

Latin name - Citrus aurantium

Familiar to many as the flavouring in Earl grey tea. Freshens air, use in vaporiser to disperse unpleasant odours. Good for combating cigarette smoke.

Relaxes and refreshes and is good for confidence building - can be used as calming oil for agitation & stressful situations. Uplifts the spirit and emotions.

Insect repellent.

Substitute the man-made Wintergreen, Methyl salicylate. 

Used in magick for concentration, focus and protection by clearing away unwanted energies from your environment.
